Main Duties and Requirements

• Install fibre cable overhead between telephone poles
• Test rod and rope on underground Openreach ducts
• Identify blockages and completion of A55 forms to enable us to work safely and legally in assigned areas
• Install subducts
• Mount distribution points on telegraph poles
• Produce, update and interpret records of daily work logs, data recordings and network design maps
• Adhere to all Health & Safety, Quality and Environmental policies

Required Skills and Competencies

• Experience on the BT Openreach network or equivalent in country of residence
• Experience of working in a MEWP / Hoist with IPAF (International Powered Access Federation) accreditation
• Experience with design schematics, duct diagrams and works instructions
• Experience in locating blockages and producing blockage clearance diagrams
• Experience in underground and overhead cable laying and hold BT accreditations (or local equivalent) or be willing to work towards this as per Digital Infrastructure’s progression plan

Required Qualifications (Achieved or Working Towards)

• PIA (Physical Infrastructure Access) accredited (or local equivalent) or working towards it
• Driving licence is preferred however not essential
• NRSWA (New Roads and Street Works Act) Unit 1 (old unit 2)
• CSCS (Constructions Skills Certification Scheme)  / EUSR (Energy and Utility Skills Register) Card
• Confined Space Training
• IPAF 1b (International Powered Access Federation)
• First Aid
• Manual Handling

What the Role Involves

• Carry out all relevant aspects or risk assessments before any work takes place.
• Identify fibre Points, prepare to install, splice and secure fibre distribution points either underground or mounted on telegraph poles.
• Navigate the network, being able to interpret job packs and fibre allocation tables.
• Installing passive equipment. Install and splice splitters in broadband cabinets using an automatic fusion splicer.
• Assist build completion. Being responsible for photographing completed fibre distribution points both inside the closure and externally showing position on chamber or on pole.
• Work safely using gate guards and signage as appropriate.
• Be responsible for all tools and equipment. As a splicer at Digital Infrastructure, you must take responsibility for tools issued and vehicle assigned in accordance with our company vehicle policy.
• Carry out acceptance testing using OTDR, light source and power meter
• Trace and rectify any faults found

Your Skills and Competencies

• NSRWA (New Roads and Street Works Act) Unit 2 Signage, guarding and light or equivalent or similar obtained in country of study
• NSRWA Unit LA Avoidance of underground apparatus or equivalent or similar obtained in country of study
• IPAF (International Powered Access Federation) MEWP (Mobile Elevated Work Platform) Mobile Boom 1B or equivalent or similar obtained in country of study
• Conversant with principles and standards for Passive Optical Networks or willing to work towards
• Knowledge and experience of working to BT Openreach (or local equivalent) standards and processes for underground safety, working at height and confined spaces or willing to work towards or be able to show evidence from skills obtained in country of study
• Current qualification to work on BT Network or equivalent or similar obtained in country of study
• Full UK driving licence or clean drivers licence from country of residence
